1ο Δείγμα της δουλειάς μας on the way

Αν όλα πάνε καλά, μέχρι το τέλος της βδομάδας, θα μπορούμε να έχουνε ένα πρόχειρο δείγμα του πρώτου τραγουδιού του Γιάννη που ασχοληθήκαμε, “Περιπλανώμενοι Εραστές” .

Βασικά όταν σταματήσω να χαζολογάω στον υπολογιστή κάνοντας ανούσιες συζητήσεις με το Γιάννη που φαίνεται πως δε καταλαβαίνει τι του λέω, και πάω στο home studio μου στο σαλόνι που αποτελείται από ένα chat microphone, ένα laptop και κάτι ακουστικά των 5 ευρώ από το cosmodata, και κάνω καμιά επαγγελματική ηχογράφηση, η οποία μάλλον θα εκνευρίσει τους γείτονες.

Γιατί καλά είναι όταν τα γράφουμε και τα τραγουδάμε, το θέμα είναι από κει και πέρα τι γίνεται. Φυσικά φιλοσοφικά μιλώντας, δε παίζει ρόλο αν αρέσει σε κάποιον άλλον το δημιούργημα σου, από τη στιγμή που το σκοπό του τον εξυπηρετεί. Που αυτός δεν είναι άλλος από την εξωτερίκευση και απόδοση συναισθημάτων, καταστάσεων, με τρόπο που δεν υπάρχει άλλος. Όπως και να’ χει όμως.

Σε λίγες μέρες λοιπόν (ελπίζω) θα μπορούμε να έχουμε και τη δική σας άποψη και τις δικές σας συμβουλές.

This bilingual thing of me, greek lyrics, english writing, has started to become rather troubling. Is my native tongue inadequate to express what I need to communicate, or am I just afraid I’m not able to do it in a more than average way ? Given the fact that my english vocabulary is far from being described as extensive, and the lack of ability to manipulate the language into producing something fancy is indisputable ,it should be the other way around. But it somehow feels a lot easier.

So I had a try. I guess i feel safe enough to share it, just because I know from personal experience that when you read something in English, the line between considering something “nice” and “hilariously wrong” is particularly hazy due to partial ignorance.

Taking up from where Marios left of here . Lack of self esteem and confidence in your abilities is one of the most useless feelings anyone can experience . I know we all have been there, but the trick is to get over it as soon as possible. I said its useless because it has nothing to offer. Doubting that you have the qualities needed (in any given aspect of your life) can be refreshing, productive, and a chance to become a better person.But coming to believe that you don’t have them, is like being stuck in a swamp. You end up doing nothing, just because you are scared that you won’t succeed . However success has nothing to do with it. Trying to succeed , believing in yourself, is all that matters . In music, life, relationships, studies, job or whatever else.

I know it all sounds familiar, things we might have heard a dozen times, or even said to others. But giving advice is far from applying it in your own life. I guess it’s more than a personal note , than a advice to anyone. Coming from someone who just got out of a swamp.

And because our blog is about music primarly, Coldplay put it nicely in their last record :

Just because I’m losing, doesn’t mean I’m lost

Doesn’t mean I’ ll stop, doesn’t mean I’m across

…. And I’m just waiting till the shine wears off…

Σημαντικό.. Μάλλον το πιο σημαντικό απ’ όλα.. Η προσωπική αυτοεκτίμηση – ικανοποίηση. Αν δεν το έχεις αυτό δεν έχεις τίποτα..

Είναι αυτό που λένε και ισχύει “αν δε πιστέψεις εσύ στον εαυτό σου, περιμένεις να πιστέψει κανένας άλλος;”

Έλα όμως που κάποιες φορές οι συγκυρίες, η κακιά στιγμή, ο θόρυβος που ακούγεται από παντού και σε περιβάλλει, σε βάζουν στο τρυπάκι.

Ναι, καλά το είπες “μη σε παίρνει από κάτω”, αλλά αυτό δεν είναι αρκετό. Σίγουρα αυτό που πρέπει να είναι μηδενικό είναι η απραξία. Αν κάτι δε πάει καλά, φτιάξε το, δούλεψε το, κατάκτησε το!

Υπομονή λοιπόν, και σκληρή δουλειά.

Και έστω κι αν δεν έχετε ιδέα για πιο πράγμα μιλάω (πλην του αυτονόητου ατόμου), δεν έχει σημασία.

Απλά ήθελα να τα πω. Thanks for listening.

Home Producing is a bitch

I came to (painfully) realise that trying to produce something worth hearing needs practice, time, and the appropriate software and hardware. Having none of them just makes it more interesting, huh ? And even if you master some small production tips and tricks and achieve a mediocre quality, suitable for pc speakers , you still need to know , or at least have a slightest idea of how you want the song to sound.. To be honest, there are not many options for orchestration when the only available instruments are a guitar (for guitar and bass parts) and a mic. But it seems hard enough to combine a bass line with the rythm guitar to sound well..

Despite all the drawbacks, we’ ll try our best to have the first one ready ( or close to bearable ) before I join the army. I m certain we ‘ll both need something to hold on to to keep the spirits up..

Out of the sudden, and with no particular reason, just like anything else in this freaking life, it just died on me. Line-in can pick up only noise no matter what i feed it. I guess I should be glad output still does its job. But still, no recording until the new one arrives from USA. Is it God’s way of telling me I should be focusing on other things for the time being ? Is the universe crying out for another path ? Damn it, they both should be aware by now that I’m not buying into signs. I’ll just do what I have to do and deal with the outcome later.

I reconfigured alsa drivers, I checked the input volume, something must be terribly wrong with the hardware. After all it lasted long enough. Fuck, I feel frustrated.

So long.

Update : It came back from the dead. Nice surprise . Got lucky this time, back on track.

Στα ελληνικά αυτή τη φορά.. Είναι λίγο το θέμα που θέλω να θίξω, και λίγο το προχωρημένο της ώρας ..

Πάντα με γοήτευαν οι στίχοι που κατάφερναν να πουν αυτο που θέλουν, ή να σε κάνουν να σκεφτείς αυτο που θές με έναν ..λιγότερο πεζό και συνηθισμένο τρόπο. Βρίσκω πολύ δύσκολο και συναρπαστικό το να καταφέρνεις να εξωτερικεύσεις αυτο που νιώθεις με έμμετρο και συνοπτικο τρόπο μέσα από εικόνες που το περιγράφουν χωρίς να χρειαστεί να αναφερθείς άμεσα στο ίδιο το συναίσθημα, χωρις να το κατονομάσεις, χωρίς να καταφύγεις σε “κλισέ” εκφράσεις..

42 λέξεις γεμάτες εικόνες.. Η μόνη άμεση αναφορά στην μοναξιά , η λέξη “μόνος” . Και όμως οι είκονες σε πλυμμηρίζουν με ένα αίσθημα μοναξιάς, σαν να το βλέπεις να αναδύεται από τα ηχεία και να σε καταπίνει. Κανένα “αγαπάω”, “πονάω”, “μου λείπει”, “υποφέρω”, “θα πεθάνω”, “τι να κάνω”, καμμία άμεση αναφορά σε αισθήματα. Ένας καμβάς μοναξιάς που το μυαλό του καθενός μας μπορεί να ζωγραφίσει τα τοπία που νιώθει και ζεί. Μαγεία

Ακούστε και , ελπιζω να καταλάβετε τι εννοώ.. Και ας μη χαράζει, όπως τώρα

It has been 2 days since my G-String (ohh.. give me a break, you know I’m talking about strings(as guitar strings) and not strings( as in underware strings )) betrayed me and had a glorifying death by breaking in two (try and do that with an underware type G-string if you can ) leaving my blackie unplayable. The mexican( fender strat mexico) came out of the closet after a year or so, but the lack of an amplifier made the experience unbearable. Couldn’t play, couldn’t record.. It just gave my fingers something to play with in the breaks between smoking. The circumstances cried out for actions. A new set of Martin Acoustic SP Phosphor Bronze 1,1mm is gracefully placed upon blackie’s neck . It sounds odd for now, but I’ll get used to it. Half an hour continuous playing to settle the pitch and I’m ready for recording once again. Well, that is if you can call connecting an electric-acoustic guitar to the line-in of an onboard low budget sound cardand capturing the sound , recording… But until the Tascam US-122L arrives, and Marios gets his mic , this will just have to do.. After all it’s an amateur effort.. I ll try out the LDASPA plugins of ardour to give it some reverb.. lets just see..

Let us start publishing…

Since the project is still in its adolescence we must feed on old stuff. The first “Song” that indrigued us enough to give it a try is the following.

I can’t even remember exactly when it was written, it must have been around 3 years ago. The only thing I can remember about it , is that it is one of the few songs that was influenced by things to come , and not by memories or things I was dealing with at that time. It’s kind of funny.. forcing yourself to experience the concequences of some decision or action .. It was a successful attempt at that time, as life made clear enough. I just hope , that insightfulness would accompany me more often .

Timeline in the lyrics is a bit complicated as it was meant to be. Apart from that I don’t feel the urge to justify, clarify, or even analyse anything else about them. It shouldn’t make any difference what I was trying to say. It’s more interesting to interpret a song based on your feelings, memories, and experiences .

Edit : I must mention Marios’ – a.k.a monkey – contribution to the song. I can’t clearly remember if he had anything to do with the lyrics, but he surely left his mark in the music . The final necessary touch, the step to completeness, the night the thoughts became actions and the lyrics became truth. Along with the company of a second glass of liquor to soften the loneliness and the so needed ride back to were I was so foolishly running scared from. So long ago, and still could have been yesterday. Life is a series of externally tangent circles, isn’t it ?

There is a demo recording, still quite not ready to be published.. But it won’t be long, to whom it may concern.
